Hero’s Day-Ghana
The Chairman of the institute Dr.M.A. Zahir gives greetings to the student of Ghana on the occasion of Hero’s Day.
Paramjit Singh(Assistant-Professor) briefed that The Heroes’ Day Celebration is held annually in honour of the three ex-servicemen of the Gold Coast Regiment- Sergent Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Ordartey Lamptey- who were shot dead while on an unarmed march to the Christiansburg Castle.
In 1948, the three soldiers were shot dead and several others injured as they made their way to the castle to petition the Governor of the British Colonial Government of the then Gold Coast to pay their pensions and other gratuities due them after fighting in the Second World War. Their death sparked massive riots in the colony and provided a much needed impetus for the political leaders of the era to press for independence from the British government.
